Mano a Mano: Mexican Culture Without Borders
Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM (EDT)
At Masa, we offer a range of programs in the service of our mission of promoting educational attainment, committed leadership and civic engagement.
Many of the parents of Masa’s students are eager to develop their English skills. Our TESOL-certified volunteers lead ESL Courses to support Masa’s families.
Volunteers are essential to making Masa work. There are several ways to get involved, from short-term summer opportunities to outreach to our after-school program.
Volunteering as a tutor at Masa has given me the experience I needed with an insight into New York’s public education system. At Masa I have my own group of students that I work with and improve my teaching skills. The greatest reward from volunteering at Masa is being able to help Latino children succeed in school.
Masa has allowed me to gain significant experience helping run a youth focused program working with children and their families, connected me with internships at Fortune 500 companies, City government and potential employers, but best of all after the 5 years (and counting) has left me with friends and memories to last a lifetime.
“Masa is a place of hope and high expectations. I am where I am today because of programs like Masa.”
“Masa is the cheese to my spaghetti. Since I joined Masa, I have become a mentor, a friend and more importantly a role model to my students. It makes me joyful to see their smiles every time I see them.”
